This artwork is inspired by the work of Mathias Withoos (ca. 1627-1703). With his expansive cityscapes and detailed still lifes, he was the most famous painter in the second half of 17th-century Amersfoort. In his work, which is filled with symbolism, the snail, as a representative of earthly life, is a recurring phenomenon. The slowness of the snail can be experienced both positively (thoughtfully) and negatively (laziness).

This mural was created at the invitation of Museum Murals.
